In the pennant division, opening round victors Shepparton North and Karramomus went head-to-head — and it was the former that kept its unblemished record intact.
Though far from a romp, North came out swinging in a manner where it seemed only one side would take home the points.
Clark Pettigrew and Mark Jackson first set the tone with a 6-2 masterclass in the opening rubber.
The Northerners backed it up with two 6-1 trouncings in the second and third ties, and just when a whitewash seemed imminent, Karramomus dug its heels in.
Tamara Corrigan orchestrated two consecutive rubber victories for the Bloods, and although she finished strongly alongside Shane Harrington in a 6-1 final tie, Northerners held on for a 6-42 to 3-32 triumph.
Old Students’ win over McEwen Reserve was night and day compared to the encounter staged at Shepparton North.
Clinching the first six rubbers with relative ease, it was Students doing the schooling as Tim Comer and Lynette Woods’ 6-3 fightback in the seventh served as the hosts’ only form of respite throughout the 8-51 to 1-25 drubbing.
And at St Brendan’s, Central Park stole the show with a 8-52 to 1-19 demolition which saw the Tigers clinch second spot on the ladder.
With all of Friday night’s scheduled A1 bouts washed out, A2 action was alive and kicking in Karramomus as the Bloods soared to a 22-game overpowering of Central Park.
Stephanie Veal was immense for the home side, playing a hand in three of Karramomus’s seven rubber wins.
Lastly, St Andrew’s got off the mark with a crucial 6-39 to 3-35 victory on the road at Shepparton North, while McEwen Reserve versus Old Students was rained out.
