Berrigan continues undefeated start by knocking off premiership fancy Katamatite in PDFL

Seven goals from Katamatite's Jedd Wright wasn't enough as Berrigan took the chocolates in the battle of two undefeated sides in the Picola and District Football League.

Wright was one of three goal-kickers for the Tigers, as Berrigan, which was best served in front of goals by Will Gorman (five goals), responded to Katamatite's third quarter comeback to win 14.17 (101) to 12.6 (78).

Gorman continued his good season, which has yielded 21 goals from five games.

John Woodcock, Daniel Parnell and Sam Poole were named in the best players for the Tigers, alongside Wright.

Despite Poole being named Katamatite's best performer, Berrigan coach Ty Russell said Zeke Carruthers tagged him throughout the match.

“Zeke Carruthers tagged Sam Poole through the match and I thought he negated his influence,” Russell said.

“Adam Way in the ruck, Will Robinson on-ball, Grant Martin down back and Will Gorman were probably our four best.”

While those players stood out, Russell said it was pleasing to see his team's fight in the final term.

“Yeah it was a great win, a great team effort to get the win,” he said.

“We are in the same boat as Katty and other teams in that we have a lot of injuries, but we fought it out well.

“Our boys lifted enormously in the last after a terrible third quarter."

● Tocumwal registered its first win for 2021, coming from behind to defeat Rennie by three points.

Both sides went into the clash winless and Rennie led by 10 points at the final change.

But a four-goal-to-two final term for the Bloods saw them win 10.10 (70) to 10.7 (67).

Jacob Sampson kicked four goals for Tocumwal, while Chase Strawhorn kicked six in the loss for Rennie.

Strawhorn now has 25 goals for the season.

Jerilderie recorded an away victory as it knocked off Yarroweyah 14.17 (101) to 10.4 (64).

David Gregory kicked three for the Demons, as did Yarroweyah's Andrew Jones.

Jones now has 18 goals from four starts.
