Numurkah’s under-12A side clinched the club’s only flag across all grades earlier this month, making it back-to-back titles for the talented pack of youngsters.
The Blues trumped Tatura by nine wickets in the decider, held at Numurkah’s St Joseph’s Primary School, easily chasing down the Bulldogs’ 87-run total in 18.1 overs.
One player clearly stepped up to the mark with the ball, and her name is Georgia Robertson.
Robertson was pivotal in helping restrict Tatura to a sub-100 score, bowling the house down to claim figures of 3-8 off three overs as the Bulldogs’ tail wagged late.
Though the visitors’ top order failed to make a dent in the runs column, the partnership of Harrison Whitford (26 not out) and Blake Bunfield (21) spurred Tatura to a respectable — and defendable — total.
Or so they thought.
Callan O’Dwyer (19) was Numurkah’s only loss of wicket as the Blues shared the love, utilising eight batters during the chase, five of whom retired not out.
Aside from O’Dwyer, Marcus Rogers and Charlie McDonald were the Blues’ other notable scorers as they notched 17 and 12 respective runs.
However, Robertson’s earlier showing with the ball was enough to net Numurkah under-12A’s sole female player best-on-field merits, closing the book on another great season for the club.
