Shepparton will soon play host to top sporting action with two associations receiving funding from the Victorian Government to host national championships in the sporting capital of northern Victoria.
Target Rifle Victoria has won the rights to host the 2021 Target Rifle Australia National Championships, which will be held from March 31 to April 5.
This event will attract members of the Australian shooting and training squads, with more than 100 competitors, 50 coaches and support staff expected to attend, including athletes who have qualified for the Tokyo Olympics and will use the championships as a warm-up event.
The Target Rifle Australia forum will also be held in conjunction with the event.
Cycling Victoria has also been successful, as it will host the 2021 Cycling Australia Junior Road National Championships from September 23 to 25.
The championships involve competitions in four disciplines — road racing, time trails, team time trials and criterium — and is the premier road racing event for young cyclists in Australia.
The championships are a key event in the selection of riders for state institute scholarships and National Road Series teams.
It also incorporates a coach development seminar, officiating traineeships, junior development clinics and parent learning and development clinics.
