In hot and stifling conditions, as the mercury reached the high 30s, Rushworth pencilled in a shock 14-68 to 2-62 triumph.
The home side’s stellar 27-19 rink win by Robert Betson was not enough as Rushworth’s Chris Garvey (26-20) and Jean Sprague (23-15) claimed crucial victories.
Rushworth’s third victory of the Goulburn Valley Playing Area division one midweek pennant season will keep it away from the wooden spoon.
The result is certain to raise plenty of questions about Golf; however, the powerhouse outfit looks destined to clinch the minor premiership with one round remaining.
Elsewhere, the scores were locked at 72 shots apiece at East Shepparton.
The home side and Kyabram played out a tense 7-72 and 9-72 contest, with the visitor’s two rink wins handing it nine points.
Seymour was able to edge out a spirited Mooroopna Golf on the road.
The away side chalked up a 14-72 to 2-61 victory at Mooroopna Golf.
Max Hammond and Ian Eichfuss flew the flag for Seymour with 30-16 and 22-20 rink wins respectively.
Mooroopna Golf’s Sheryl Emmett fought bravely for the home side with a 25-20 salute.
And Tatura-Hill Top remains in second spot following a 15-shot win over Shepparton Park.
The Bulldogs skipped away to a 14-73 to 2-58 win.
In division two, Euroa has moved into second spot on the ladder.
Euroa registered a 15-88 to 1-63 win over Tatura-Hill Top.
Ken Sutcliffe was on song with a 35-19 rink win, along with teammate Anthony Kingma.
The points were shared on rink one, with Euroa’s Elizabeth Byrne and the Bulldogs’ Phil Boyd tied on 26 shots.
With the outcome Euroa moves above Seymour, which was handed a heavy defeat by Kyabram when the ladder-leader punished Seymour 16-81 to 0-50.
Shepparton Golf got over the line against Shepparton Park in a cracking 12-69 to 4-68 contest.
Trevor Dunlop (27-25) and John Tucker (25-16) were crucial for Golf.
Avenel breezed past Stanhope with a classy 15-70 to 1-63 win.
East Shepparton (1) survived a scare from Kyabram in division three.
The ladder-leader lost two rinks, but the work done by Kevin Cox (29-17) was enough in the end.
Fellow compatriot East Shepparton (2) had luck on its side against Mooroopna.
The Eagles defied Mooroopna, 14-58 to 2-56.
Nagambie cruised to a comprehensive 15-109 to 1-43 win over Mooroopna Golf.
Merrigum finds itself inside finals contention in division four following its 16-83 to 0-49 triumph over East Shepparton.
Kyabram saluted 14-75 to 2-65 over Murchison, while Shepparton Golf smashed Shepparton Park by 45 shots.
Lastly, division five action had Dookie triumph over Violet Town with a 14-49 to 0-38 win.
