Both sides picked up good wins at the weekend, with Mooroopna too strong for Tatura and Northerners outclassing Kyabram.
At Mooroopna Recreation Reserve, the regular season top two battled it out, with the home side’s decision to bat first proving to be a good one.
The Cats put on a solid showing with the bat, making their way to 120, with a Joel May 51 the highlight of the innings.
May’s total was supported by Tasman Hall (16), Simon D’Elia (10) and Damon Zampaglione (10), while with the ball, a Jed Woods 5-22 off nine was the pick of the bunch for the visitors.
For Tatura, it was not meant to be and, despite a decent showing with the bat, the side fell agonisingly short on 118.
With the ball Mooroopna had the upper hand, sharing the load between Aaron DiFede (2-15) and Josh Preston (2-24).
This bowling display helped get the Cats over the line, with the minor premiers booking a spot in this weekend’s final.
Northerners put on a clinic against Kyabram, winning by 81 runs.
The Jets hit the crease first, with Tim Brett’s 63 and Trent Sidebottom’s 33 helping the side to a big 144-run total.
With the ball, a good 4-29 off seven from Jason Parsons was the best for the visiting side.
When Kyabram hit the crease it needed to be on the ball from the get-go, however, a disappointing start to the innings set the pace.
It only took five balls for Northerners to find their first wicket, with Brett striking, before a second followed in the third over.
It was all down hill from there for Kyabram, with the Redbacks absolutely blown away by Northerners’ bowling attack.
Impressive figures to Brett (4-21) and Sidebottom (2-8), along with Thomas Magee (2-11) and Dallas Furnell (2-14) got the side over the line.
Brett and Sidebottom had particularly good games, dominant with bat and ball.
The weekend’s results set up a mouth-watering final, with Mooroonpa playing Northerners on Saturday from 12.30pm at Tallygaroopna Recreation Reserve.
