Former City of Shepparton councillor and mayor Murray Slee, sadly passed away on Friday morning, September 6, at the age of 101.
Murray was born in Stanhope in 1923 and moved to Shepparton with his family in 1937 when he was 14 years old.
He was elected to council in 1956, and led as mayor for three terms from 1976 to 1979.
Murray worked tirelessly, serving his community for 34 years, and is the longest-serving councillor to this day.
He made a significant impact on Greater Shepparton, and in 2001 he received the Order of Australia Medal for his outstanding service to local government and the Shepparton community.
Murray is survived by his four daughters, Robyn, Di, Jenny and Helen.
A memorial service will be held at Saint Augustine’s Anglican Church, Shepparton, at 11am on Thursday, September 12.
