Founded in 1876 as a modest hut on the banks of the Goulburn River, GV Health has grown alongside the community it serves.
To mark the milestone, guided tours of the Shepparton hospital will run on Saturday, June 13 from 10am and Sunday, June 14 from 11am.
Visitors will be shown through key areas of the hospital by knowledgable staff and volunteers, before being invited to relax in the staff dining room with complimentary tea and coffee.
Over the same weekend, the Historical Society of Mooroopna will open its doors to showcase its extensive collection of hospital and district memorabilia.
The society will be open on Saturday, June 13 from 11am to 2pm and Sunday, June 14 from 11am to 1pm.
No formal tours will run; however, staff will be available to answer any questions.
Director of nursing and midwifery education and tour co-ordinator Cathy Scott said the weekend offered a unique chance to see the hospital in a new light.
“Most people visit the hospital when they are sick or visiting a loved one, so this is a great opportunity to have a look around guided by people who know the hospital well,” she said.
Both tours of the Shepparton hospital and the Historical Society of Mooroopna are free of charge.
While no bookings are required for the tour of the Historical Society of Mooroopna, they are essential for the tour of the Shepparton hospital and can be made via trybooking.com/DLYTC
The tours form part of a broader program of anniversary events, including a staff reunion ball, the release of a commemorative history book and a community storytelling project.
The milestone celebrations invite the community to reflect on the past, connect with the present and be part of the future of healthcare in the region.
