Exorcising the demons of the past, the side turned up the heat against Kyabram in the Goulburn Valley Bowls Division to be crowned the champions by 33 shots in front of an ecstatic travelling crowd.
Quashing an early surge from Kyabram, Seymour steamed home to collect the chocolates and add a trophy to a cabinet craving silverware, taking a weight off the shoulders of players and fans alike.
“It is great because I think we have been in this in four out of the last five years, and to have finally won one feels nice,” Seymour team manager Jan Wesselman said.
A six shot advantage for Jan McFayden's rink signalled hope for Kyabram, but the wind was soon taken out of its sails by an enormous 22-shot ransacking by a Di Staples-skipped quartet, consisting of Allan Welsh, Patricia Green and Marie Maggs, all but handing Seymour the title.
With all members hitting their straps for the 87-54 triumph, the grand final deliverance spells a great end to the victors’ campaign.
“I think some of our bowlers bowled better than they did in the semi-final,” Wesselman said.
“We had a six at one end and then we came up and got a five at the other end and that really helped get everybody going.
“We finished on top, so it is lovely to end the season in a good way.”
