The state government is continuing to deliver long-term repairs to north-east Victoria’s most badly damaged roads following the devastating floods last year.
Victorian Roads and Road Safety Minister Melissa Horne said work was under way to rebuild and repair major roads in the area, including on the Goulburn Valley Fwy, Hume Fwy, Midland Hwy and Shepparton Alternative Hwy.
Major patching works have since taken place on the Goulburn Valley Fwy between Seymour and Shepparton, after it was forced to close in October last year due to the flooding.
The works have repaired the damage to the road and will improve the strength and lifespan of the road itself. It will also allow the freeway to continue functioning as a key freight route for Victoria, forming part of a national freight corridor for goods travelling between Melbourne and Brisbane.
Victoria’s flood-damaged roads are undergoing large-scale repairs as part of the government’s $165 million emergency repair program.
Since October, more than 937km of flood recovery activities have been completed across the state, ranging from clearing debris and drainage to rebuilding and repair works. A further 119km of work is in progress.
