The exhibition showcases the early works and attempts at storytelling of 16 famous Australian authors and illustrators from when they were young.
The event saw the authors and illustrators read out not just their own work but the work of others, and use the time to encourage and inspire kids to have fun with their own storytelling process.
Goulburn Valley Libraries program co-ordinator Bronwyn Cole said it was fantastic to see the children learn from the authors and illustrators and get an insight into their early works.
“The focus was encouraging kids to have a go and know that what they’re doing now doesn’t have to be perfect, just give it a go, you could be a famous author one day,” Ms Cole said.
“They all spoke so well, the authors were fabulous and everyone had a good laugh.”
This event was the official launch of the exhibition — curated by author Aimee Chan, whose work is also on display there — which will be touring across Australia over the coming months.
Ms Cole was delighted Shepparton was picked as the exhibition’s official launch location.
“This is the first time this exhibition has been seen publicly anywhere and being that it’s the first launch for this exhibition, it was huge; we went over 200 people,” Ms Cole said.
“They chose Shepparton because they wanted to choose a flood-affected area to bring some inspiration and positivity to and because the Goulburn Valley region was so impacted, they wanted to bring it to our area.”
The exhibition will be open to the public until February 23. Entry is free and available for viewing during regular library hours. For more information, go to the Goulburn Valley Libraries website.
