Just 12 years old, Emily was conspicuous by her diminutive size as she took on 42 seasoned athletes, yet with amazing determination finished the race a massive four minutes ahead of her nearest female rival to take out the women’s event.
Emily finished fourth overall, crossing the line ahead of more highly fancied and seasoned competitors.
The race requires competitors to complete a 2 km run, a 10 km bike ride and finish with a 1 km run.
Emily’s winning time of 31 min 56 sec, was just two minutes behind overall winner Merlin Tzaros who came in with a time of 29.55.
Conducted by Triathlon Victoria, this was the second race in the Duathlon Series and the final event of the 2020-21 season.
With the season now over and another medal added to her collection as well as a Victorian title, Emily will hopefully take a short break before spending the next few months training with the Victorian team in readiness for the new triathlon season which will begin in September.
