Maher's Musings has never hidden its long-suffering passion for the red and black, but what the Bombers have lacked in this column's tenure is a Goulburn Valley product to cheer on.

So you can imagine how happy the mood was when Seymour's Durham not only ran out for his maiden match in the AFL, but did so with a glorious mullet to rival teammates Sam Draper and Archie Perkins.

It was enough to forget about lockdown number five — for a moment at least.

It means today we must celebrate the mullet at a districtl level.

Country football has many constants, but outstanding creativity and flair above — and in some cases increasingly below — the shoulders when it comes to hair care is among my favourites.

I put the call out for submissions online earlier in the week and, of course, the response was overwhelming.

Here's a selection of the entries — and a few close to my own heart.

And when it comes down to deciding the best district mullet of the season, who am I to have all the fun.
