KYABRAM RODEO FACES IN THE CROWD

Rodeo from the air: An early evening crowd was a sign of things to come at Kyabram rodeo on Friday. Photo courtesy Paul McDonald.
Cowgirls: A rodeo was the one thing Lilly Ryan and Rikki Aspinall really wanted to tick off their bucket list when they embarked on a country-working adventure in the shearing sheds of the Goulburn Valley. The pair achieved the girl on Friday evening at Kyabram and were dressed appropriately for the event.
Back in town: Darren Wills, with children Jensen and Georgia. Despite the fact that Darren grew up in Kyabram, before moving away for a decade, he had never been to a rodeo at the showgrounds. It was a first for the entire family, who moved back to Kyabam four years ago, his other two children were fixated on the rodeo action in the grandstands when the photo was taken.
Boys’ night out: For Euroa brothers Will and Freddie Swift a bucket of chips and a seat on the hay bales was the first priority at Friday’s rodeo. Parents Steph and Tim Swift said it was a first for the boys, who were looking forward to seeing the bull riding. For Freddie, the chips were enough.
Under the stars: Angus Lochhead and Alannah Catlow, from Echuca, were among the huge crowd that descended on the showgrounds for the return of the annual community event.
Best buddies: Karen Johnson, visiting from Queensland, and Kyabram’s Maxi Basten found a comfortable seat alongside the arena to enjoy the spoils of the carnival atmosphere at the rodeo. They hadn’t met before the rodeo, but were immediate friends for the evening.
Best seats in the house: Kyabram’s Hemphill family — children Harriet, Maggie and Hugo, with parents Locky and Kate — in the front row of the stands at the rodeo on Friday night.
Life in the country: Chloe, Stacey, Luke and Blake Prossor from Tatura fitted the country theme of the rodeo well, sharing their night between the arena events and the action of sideshow alley.
Fun for all: Olivia and Scarlett Bennett with their “Nanny”, Carol, having a ball at the long weekend celebration. They are from Muskerry, near Finley.
Bucking bull: Taya Tamblyn from Tennyson had to wait a long while in line for her turn on the bucking bull, but by her expression the wait was worthwhile.
Buckled up: James Fels was riding at the rodeo on Friday, travelling from Hawker in central South Australia to compete. He had support from friend Dylan Brandenburg, who hails from Bloomsbury, Queensland.
