The football action is heating up as the halfway mark of the home and away season approaches.
Round six’s three senior womens matches were tight-fought clashes right up to the final siren.
It was tools down, boots picked up on Friday night as two games were held under lights.
The Friday knock-offs arrived for Nathalia which secured its third win of the season in a close contest against an in-form Rumbalara at Nathalia Recreation Reserve.
Fresh off a forfeit against Echuca the previous weekend, Nathalia was deadly in front of goal as the Purples made the most of their opportunities in attack.
The catalyst to Nathalia’s success was a blistering second term when it piled on four goals straight, while Rumba was kept scoreless.
Despite the visitors closing the gap in the second half, Nathalia proved too strong and won the match 6.1 (37) to 4.3 (27).
Shepparton United got a slice of revenge for last year’s grand final loss as it defeated reigning premier Echuca by three goals on Friday night.
It was the Murray Bombers’ first loss of the season, while United kept its record clean with five wins from as many matches.
Demons star Molly Kennedy received best-on-ground honours for her effort at Kialla Park Recreation Reserve.
On Sunday afternoon, bottom two sides Barooga and Tatura fought out an exciting fixture at Tatura Park.
Both sides were hunting their first win of the season.
Barooga claimed the chocolates in an eight-point victory and was rewarded with a belting out of the song.
Bulldogs star and 2024 league best-and-fairest winner Sarah Lange-Richards was one of her side's better players in her second match of the season.
Tatura’s Maddy Andronaco booted a game-high two majors.
Six rounds in, United sits clear on top of the table with a monster percentage of 978.57.
Echuca follows in second place with Rumbalara and Nathalia making up the third and fourth spots, respectively.
In the youth girls league, Shepparton Swans made it two wins on the trot.
The Swans kept their good form humming as they defeated the Purples by 38 points on the road.
Moama beat Shepparton United by 28 points, while Echuca United made light work of Barooga to the tune of 73 points.
