Tatura Park’s Western Oval Lighting Project was officially unveiled on Friday, May 2 by City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali and Minister for Regional Development Jaclyn Symes, cutting the ribbon on a significant development for the community and user groups.
Of course, the new lights, which include four 30-metres tall poles emitting 100-lux light, had its first test during Tatura Football Netball Club’s Anzac Day round, allowing the Bulldogs to tick off an achievement more than a decade in the making.
“The new lights greatly improve our training abilities and allow us to host Goulburn Valley League night matches, including our first one on Anzac Day,” TFNC president Quinton Langlands said.
“They are a great addition to the facilities in Tatura and open up many more opportunities for our club, through men’s, women’s and junior football.”
The $289,200 project, funded through the Victorian Government’s Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fundand contributions by Greater Shepparton City Council and TFNC, will allow further night fixtures and the ability for other Tatura Park user groups to capitalise on further night activities.

“It is fantastic to see the completed lights now in operation, with the Tatura Football Netball Club enjoying their first night game under the new lights on Anzac Day,” Cr Sali said.
“The upgraded lights directly support junior football scheduling and strengthens the opportunities for women’s and girls' football. We look forward to all user groups making the most of the upgraded lighting at the facility.
“Back in 2020, I spoke to the Tatura Football Netball Club, and it was identified that the main oval lights were not up to standard with other Goulburn Valley League facilities.
“It is fantastic to have now resolved this and delivered on an important community project through the power of patience and team work.”
The lighting upgrade was announced in July 2024 as one of 26 regional infrastructure projects to benefit from the Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.
Tatura and Shepparton Swans battled it out under lights in round four of the GVL season, but Cr Sali said the benefits of the upgrade will extend beyond the ability to kick around the yellow Sherrin.
"This significant investment transforms the oval into a multipurpose field, enabling a wider range of activities and attracting major events to Greater Shepparton,“ he said.
“The upgraded lights not only enhance our community's facilities but also promote increased engagement, health, and economic opportunities for the people of Tatura and surrounding areas.”
