The Mansfield goalkeeper arrived to the Eagles nest from Whittlesea Football Netball Club this season alongside fellow defender Abbie Barnes, but is already leaving her mark on the GVL.
Rogers is locking up the league’s best shooters, particularly in the month of June where the Eagles recorded a 3-1 win-loss ratio, falling only narrowly to premiership contender Echuca.
Across the last four games, Mansfield has beaten top six sides Shepparton and Tatura and thrashed Rochester by 33 goals in round 12, after previously defeating the Tigers by only seven in round two.
A large part of Mansfield’s success is due to its defence, and thus, also Chylah Rogers.
The goalkeeper, who has also been listed in goal defence, has aided Mansfield in its charge towards A-grade finals netball.
Through rounds one to eight, Mansfield conceded 45.3 goals per game on average.
In the month of June, that has dropped to 40.3, against genuine competition no less.
Mansfield coach Tegan Hopkins lauded Rogers across the board in her defensive skill set as she settles into GVL competition seamlessly.
“She’s got excellent footwork, constantly trying to deflect and she’s a phenomenal rebounder,” Hopkins said.
“She’s quite tenacious but she has a calm face on her even when she’s trying really hard, which in turn offers calmness to the rest of the team as well.
“This is her first season in the GV, she came up with Abbie Barnes and they’re just making waves as a defensive duo.
“They keep each other accountable and are very coachable and keen to learn.”
The Eagles aren’t shy of tough opponents on their run home either - a round one replay against 11-1 Euroa is scheduled for Saturday before taking on top six side Seymour following the interleague bye.
But with Rogers guarding the goal circle, don’t write Mansfield out of an upset win to boost its finals odds.
