The tennis season for Yarrawonga Lawn Tennis Club will take a short hiatus over the Christmas break. Midweek competitions both enjoyed their final nights with plenty of usual festivities.
The Yarrawonga Lawn Tennis Club wishes all members and visitors a Merry Christmas and an enjoyable holiday break.
Thursday Night Ladies
The Thursday Night Ladies Competition had the last night before their Christmas break.
In a first for this competition, they used a rankings shoot out format where players of similar ability played against each other.
This meant there was some very even matches played during the night.
In group 1 Amy Lairson was the victor narrowly from Erin York.
Group 2 was very even with Win Win Htwe the leading player with Jess Linehan in second place.
The Group 3 had a great hit with Chris Hawkins the winner and Tess Bassett claiming the silver medal.
Group 4 was the final group with Norma Toms claiming the chocolates narrowly from Emma Thompson.
For every set won, a point was added to the player’s team.
At the end of the matches the ladies had a feast of pizza and a few beverages to review the year to date.
This competition will resume on Thursday, February 3.
Tuesday Night Mens
The Tuesday Night Mens Competition also had their finale for the year before a break.
Ash Wheaton organised a great night of tennis with a rankings shoot out.
This ensured that that competition was intense with players of like ability trying to win their groups.
Winners of the groups on the night were Group 1 John Brunner, Group 2 Tom McKimmie, Group 3 Jason Cox, Group 4 Fraser Bennett, Group 5 Andrew Brew, Group 6 John Wright, Group 7 Jason Bassett, Group 8 Trent Head, Group 9 Corey Beggs.
A couple of groups had their night ended prematurely when the sprinklers made an unexpected appearance.
As usual the night was full of laughter and banter. There was a rumour that Rohan Kaine’s team may have some docking of points due to his exploits.
At the conclusion of the night the men enjoyed an awesome feed of noodles.
As always, the night was critiqued and as this was the last night for 2021, several found there was a lot to review.
The Tuesday Mens competition has a short break and will resume on Tuesday January 11.
