Another busy 2 weeks for members of ClubMulwala Snooker Club despite the Covid cloud that is proving extremely difficult to avoid.
The snooker club are very grateful to ClubMulwala for being able to continue the sport in such challenging circumstances and, like the rest of the community, look forward to getting back to whatever normal will look like in the future.
On a sombre note all members send their deep condolences to club legend Barry Jackson and his family on the recent passing of his wife of 63 years, Norma.
Barry showed enormous strength and commitment in caring for Norma through the period of illness that she eventually succumbed to, and we all extend sympathy and best wishes at this difficult time.
Monday, July 5 saw Dan Young taking some time off from catching Murray Crayfish and Murray Cod, whilst also taking on a new job to take out the Club Challenge event.
Dan defeated reigning club champion Darren Thompson in the final table in what was an excellent return to the form that saw him cleaning up earlier in the season.
Hans Lang claimed victory over new member Kevin Young in the social event on Wednesday, July 7 to continue his ever-consistent play.
Kevin moved to Yarrawonga from Melbourne in May and is thoroughly enjoying ClubMulwala Snooker Club having played both billiards and snooker competitions in the past.
Kevin found the club through the regular Yarrawonga Chronicle articles and particularly enjoys the handicapping system and welcoming nature.
Debbie Harbrow has been exhibiting seriously strong form over recent weeks and extended it on Monday, July 12 in winning a round of the Diggers Tribute event over equally consistent Hans Lang. Both Deb and Hans will be looking forward to the Bruce Johnstone Memorial, which is the next club title to be contested.
The club are very fortunate to be able to play with and watch former Oceania Champion Adrian Ridley when he has an opportunity to contest club events.
Wednesday, July 14 was such an occasion where, despite his huge handicap, Adrian worked his way through the preliminary rounds to collect the choccies in the final table against Deb Harbrow.
Adrian put together an 82 point break during that match and recorded a number of other excellent scores in earlier rounds with an exhibition of quality snooker that will see his handicap extended even further.
As people can see on the ClubMulwala website and in its members newsletter, the club welcome new members or anyone who may like to give snooker a try.
There are a variety of events held every Monday and Wednesday evening and there are plenty of opportunities for new players to join or come along to try the facilities out.
The club have 2 excellently maintained full size tables available for competition, practice and visitor use, and a regularly updated handicapping system to ensure players from beginners to advanced level can compete equally.
There are also plenty of experienced and skilled players who can help with advice and tips on how to improve your game or perhaps adapt it for those who have played pub or social pool in the past.
Please contact on either 0497 062443 or 0418 361779 or visit on a Monday or Wednesday evening by 7PM if you would like to give snooker a try.
