Young cricketers shine as Northern Rivers dominate

An under-15 cricket team bursting at the seams with district talent put on a scintillating performance at the weekend.

Northern Rivers put on a show on Sunday, defeating North East Country in the under-15 All-Star Series at Kialla Park.

North East batted first, putting up a total of 115, with some great bowling keeping the score low.

Mitchell Walters of Euroa took 3-17, Old Students duo Ashton Young (1-11) and Samuel O’Brien (1-20) bowled well and Rory Duffy of Central Park-St Brendan’s picked up 1-22.

With the bat, the Rivers could not be stopped.

Ryan Ash of Central Park-St Brendan’s opened the batting alongside O’Brien, with the pair putting on a terrific partnership.

Ash hit his way to 38 before getting out, while O’Brien, who has been playing in Cricket Shepparton’s Haisman Shield for most of the year, retired on 30.

Young hit his way to an impressive 51, while Duffy (17) and Old Students’ Oscar Lambourn (14) put in a good shift — Walters, after his remarkable spell with the ball, was unfortunate to get a duck.
