It was the club’s third consecutive win in this competition.
In an exciting final, Deniliquin players were able to overcome Barham’s home course advantage and score a narrow 4-3 win, with several matches stretching beyond 18 holes to get a result.
The winning team comprised Felicity McCalman, Vicki Hutton, Kerran Leetham, Jayne Hood, John Radeski, Marg Rothwell, Leigh Chappell, Neil Boswell, Graeme Rothwell, Ross Pognoski, Robin Hood, Gary Stephens, Robert Armytage and Jenny Choice. Congratulations to all players.
On the local scene, last Thursday was a stableford event, and players found the scoring difficult.
A-grade winner with 33 points was Jen Choice from runner-up Kerran Leetham 31, and in B-grade the winner was Wendy Pearce 35 on countback to Ali Ferguson.
Saturday was versus par, and although this format is not always the most popular, with the help of visitors it attracted a big field and four grades.
A-grade winner with +4 was Ross Taylor from runner-up Andrew ‘Taffy’ Brunker +2, B-grade Darren Mitchell +5 on countback to Neil Boswell, C-grade Bryan Bennett +3 from runner-up Norm Purtill +2, and D-grade Geoff McCallum +4 from runner-up Jayne Hood +2.
In Wednesday’s stableford event the A-grade winner was Troy Grant with 38 points on countback to Ron Friend, and B-grade winner was Peter Beckton 39 from runner-up Brian Dixon 36.
In the coming week there is a stableford event tomorrow, 9 holes stroke on Tuesday, stableford on Wednesday, stroke and ladies medal on Thursday, and stroke and men’s medal on Saturday.
Golfers are also reminded that the pro shop will be open throughout Easter if any members or visitors want a social game.
Also coming up is GOH Day, celebrating 50 years of golf for Gail O’Halloran on Sunday, April 14.
This will be four-person ambrose, $30 per player with proceeds to Deniliquin Golf Club.
The clubhouse is closed tonight, so there will be no meals or raffles.
Friday Night Fun will return next week.
