The Strikers were back to their best during the clash at home against Sandhurst, winning the match 5-2.
Strikers duo Angus Cole and Declan Nabbs scored twice, while star player-coach Xavier McBain scored one.
McBain was proud of how his side responded after the shock loss in round two.
“It was good to be back on the home deck because we played in Bendigo last week and we got a bit shown up there,” he said.
“We didn’t change a lot (for the Sandhurst match) really, just going back to basics, fundamentals, passing and trapping and just our talk out on the field. Focusing on those, I think, helped us get back to what we know.
“It was good to bounce back and get another win.
“I don’t think we had lost (until last weekend) in a couple of years, so it was a bit of a surprise.”
In terms of how the Strikers performed against Sandhurst, McBain said a few key players stood up in the three-goal win.
“It was a tough contest as it was a hot day out there,” he said.
“I think our boys showed a bit more control with the ball and we got the result that we wanted.
“Definitely Tim Russell was really good out there and ran really hard and did some really important things for the team.
“Another player would be Ben Harman, who did really well from a defensive side of things and did a lot of tackling and chasing and that sort of stuff.”
Looking ahead to the Strikers’ round four match against Eaglehawk, McBain explained why the game changed dates.
“It was scheduled for Sunday (May 12), but it has been changed to Friday (May 10) night now,” he said.
“Because obviously Sunday is Mother’s Day, so we had a few players say, ‘nup, I can’t play’, so we have changed that to Friday night now.”
SYC dominated Eaglehawk in its round three match, with the score finishing 1-8.
SYC’s Ryan Mackenzie was arguably best-on-field for his side as he scored a hat-trick of goals.
Meanwhile, up north, Strathdale made light work of Echuca-Moama, winning the match by six goals at the Echuca Hockey Centre.
The results for the Mooropna and Bendigo clash were not available at the time of print.

The score was 1-2 in Werribee’s favour, with Mooroopna’s Kim Starkey the lone goal-scorer for her side.
