Shepparton product Kyle Michel saves best for last at NSW Open

Shepparton young gun Kyle Michel saved his best for last at the NSW Open, shooting a final round score of 67 on Sunday.

Michel finished with an aggregate score of 278, six under par for the tournament, and tied for 51st.

The multiple club champion at Shepparton Golf Club got off to a great start on Thursday, carding a 68, before an even par round of 71 on Friday had him sneak into the weekend at three under, right on the cut line.

Fighting the heat on Saturday, Michel went one over par, hitting 72 after a poor front nine where he hit three bogeys and a double bogey on the ninth, an unassuming hole that tripped up plenty of competitors throughout the weekend.

Applying what he learnt from Saturday, Michel went bogey-free on the front nine on Sunday while recording four birdies, including the ninth hole, to finish the round at four under.

On the Order of Merit leaderboard, Michel ends the tournament in 30th place with 174 points from the nine events he has played in this season.

He will head to the final Order of Merit event at The National Tournament hoping to perform strongly again.

The hunt for the elusive first professional tour win continues for Michel, who fell agonisingly short at last year’s Gippsland Super 6 series, after holding a two-shot advantage over eventual winner Tom Power Horan in the final play-off round with four holes to play.
