Rochester claims Division B junior final

Rochester 4 was crowned junior division B champions after sweeping Elmore 4 six sets to none for a 6-36 to 0-17, putting the finishing touches on an unbeaten Campaspe Tennis Association season.

Cadence Major and Evie Coghill got Rochester off to a fast start, pairing up for a 6-2 win in the opening set.

The next match was much closer, but the team of Keeley Major and Taylor Murray just managed to take it 6-5 for Rochester over Elmore’s Kassidy Cail and Mallee Jones.

Rubbers three and four followed a similar path, going to Rochester 6-2 and 6-5, respectively, before Asher Lehmann teamed with Cadence Major to record a 6-0 win.

Coghill and Murray claimed the last set 6-3 completing the clean sweep.

Rochester was unbeaten through the regular season, winning 58 sets and dropping only 20 as it recorded 12 wins and two draws.

Division A

Lockington-Bamawm United 3 faced off against Tongala 1 in the division A final and it was Tongala who walked away with the championship 7-46 to 1-21.

The four singles matches all went the way of Tongala, starting with Marley McConnell defeating James Brentnall 6-3, followed by Jessie Johnstone defeating Nicholas Mitchell, also 6-3.

Logan Milnes added six games to Tongala’s score, defeating Charlie Byrne before Kenzie Johnstone rounded out the singles with a 6-4 win over LBU’s Chelsea Newton.

As the match moved into the doubles Tongala stayed in form, with McConnell and Jessie Johnstone winning the first 6-3 before Milnes teamed with Hudson Kellet to take the second 6-1.

LBU clawed one back through the team of Brentnall and Byrne, taking it 6-4, but Tongala polished off the match with a win in the final set 6-1.

LBU was the only side to defeat Tongala this season, defeating the now premiers in round 11, although the match did involve three forfeited sets.

There was a trio of individual accolades for local CTA players, with Rochester 2’s Mandy Dingwall the division two season aggregate winner, while the men’s division two aggregate award was taken out by LBU junior Nicholas Mitchell.

Along with winning Division B, Rochester 4’s Keeley Major was also the aggregate winner for her grade.
