Kyabram rolled the dice, declaring after posting 58 runs without loss in its second innings, leaving the visitors to make 133 in their second innings to score a maximum points win in 43 overs.
‘‘We had to give them a chance to be a chance ourselves as we had to win outright to get into the top six (and finals),’’ Kyabram skipper Kyle Mueller said after the game.
The maximum points win lifted Kyabram from seventh to fifth on the ladder and a date with Mooroopna at Mooroopna in the first week of the finals this weekend.
Resuming at 4-67 in its first innings on Saturday chasing Kyabram’s first innings score of 9-171, Karramomus was sent packing for 96 after
Charlie McLay and Angus McKenzie stepped up with the ball for Kyabram.
McLay claimed 5-17 off 15.1 overs and McKenzie 4-18 off 10 overs to destroy the Karramous innings in 51.1 overs.
Then Mueller and Paul Parsons slammed 58 off six overs in Kyabram’s second innings before the declaring.
Mueller made 31 not out with one four and two sixes and Parsons 27 not out with four fours to leave Kyabram with 43 overs to win or lose the game outright.
Charlie McLay proved the match-winner again with the ball for Kyabram with another deadly spell of 4-28 off eight overs.
He received most support from his brother Billy with 3-14 off five overs as they bowled their side into the finals with just one over to spare, dismissing Karramomus for 118, 15 runs short of its target in 42 overs.
· Kyabram’s B-grade side enters the first week of the finals on a high after a crushing win against Karramomus to complete the regular season.
After dismissing Karramomus for 131 and resuming its run chase at 2-33 on Saturday the Young brothers — Jack and Alec — stepped up to steer Kyabram to a thumping win.
Jack plundered 102 off 132 balls with 15 sixes, while Alec scored 113 off 155 deliveries with 13 boundaries
They shared a154-run stand for the fifth wicket.
Kyabram now meets Numurkah at Kyabram in the first round of the finals this weekend.
· Kyabram’s E-grade side suffered a loss to Katandra in the penultimate round on Saturday.
After losing prolific scoring batter Paul Wickham for a duck, fellow opener Marc Coates with 48 and Dylan Lopez (40) produced a handy stand which enabled the side to post 7-150.
But Katandra led by opener Brad Murray with a half-century rounded up the Kyabram score in 32.5 overs.
Kyabram meets Mooroopna in the final round this Saturday in preparation for a tilt at the finals.
