At last year’s 21 st annual event at Coolangatta & Tweed Heads Golf Club,36 amputees competed.
“We have 36 definites and I expect 40, from all states in Australian and one from overseas,” local member and past board director Andrew Watson said.
The 70-year-old retired electrician, a below knee amputee, will compete and was heavily involved in luring the tournament of YMGCR.

“In 2024 I mentioned our club resort to organisers, did a presentation, discussed it with our CEO Peter Savy and made a formal proposal,” Andrew said.
“I’m ecstatic with our board’s decision to hold the event. I love the club, the people, the staff are brilliant and the pro shop is brilliant. Our motto is ‘More than Golf’.”
A lot of talent will be on display including two amputees, Geoff Nicholas and Steve Prior, with world ranking of 64 and 65.
Mr Savy welcomed the AGA decision in choosing YMGCR. “We are proud to host this event and showcase our club resort to another big group of golfers playing in a national event,” he said.
