In the Murray Bushrangers’ round 17 Talent League match, Shepparton United product Hueston starred on his home turf, kicking 3.2 in a showcase of his forward craft against Dandenong.
While the Stingrays would triumph 17.10 (112) to 8.9 (57), Goulburn Valley prospects littered the best afield votes and stuffed the stat sheet in the Bushies’ second Shepparton fixture in recent weeks.
Seymour’s Josh Porter was a weapon coming off the backline, accumulating 21 disposals, six marks and five tackles in the contest, while Shepparton’s Hunter Howells recorded 15 touches down back as well.
Another Bear in Angus Williams was named in the best, kicking a goal for the Bushrangers, while Lucas O’Hara (Shepparton United), Lincoln Brand, Jack Mellington, Spencer Sharp and Alex Whitlock (Shepparton) all also enjoyed being back on Deakin’s deck.
Shepparton Swans’ Dash Smith earned a call-up for the first time this season and was influential on debut, tallying 14 disposals and two shots on goal.
In the girls match, Shepparton United’s Lana Carroll and Leila Creevey returned to their home ground with emphatic impact.
Despite a 4.3 (27) to 13.7 (85) loss, Creevey was one of Murray’s top performers on ranking points after recording 11 disposals and five tackles, while Carroll was named in the best for her 10 disposals and six tackles.
Ashanti Walker (United), Eve Cook and Erin Calleja (Shepp Swans) were more girls to don the black, purple and gold on Saturday afternoon.
The girls will play Calder next Saturday, while the boys have a break until the first weekend of August.
