It’s exactly what Numurkah coach Sean Harrap is creating with yet-another recruit joining the camp for next season.
Sean Thompson, a former Murray Bushranger and Shepparton United junior, has returned from army service ready to wage war in blue come round one.
Harrap was eager to have the 197cm ruck/forward at the club, and will play an important role in helping Thompson transition into Murray League football.
“He hasn’t played senior footy and has just come back from 12 months in the army, but he is tall timber who’ll hopefully help improve our list,” Harrap said.
“He has come through some really good programs, so from a coaching perspective I’m all about helping him develop his footy.
“He is also a really good fit for the club and suits our younger age demographic.”
There is no shortage of young energy at Numurkah.
On top of the club’s existing talent pool, recently the Blues brought in Goulburn Valley League-proven Morrie Serra and Charlie Hill to bolster their budding list – which spells good news going forward for the club.
“All eyes are on next season, but we hope we can hold onto these younger guys for a few years,” Harrap said.
“We’ve brought in the likes of Sean, Morrie and Charlie on top of what we’ve already got, and then you add in Jamason Daniels and Braydon Sutton – things are looking good.”
“Finals is a driver for us – and there is still a way to go – but we will just keep ticking boxes over the next few months.”
Another forward fresh to the Murray League is Echuca United’s new man Dane Leyden.
Leyden brings a premiership-winning mentality having won the Mornington Peninsula Football League flag in 2019 with Dromana, and is a welcome addition for an Eagles side searching to rebrand after being handed this season’s wooden spoon.
At Barooga, big-bodied utility Will Clarke has joined from St Paul’s McKinnon.
The 2019 Southern Football League interleague representative adds plenty of size to the Hawks’ stocks, while news gets better for fans with the announcement Tom McNeill has returned after a season away from the club.
And in the Barooga netball sphere, the club has locked in Matt Healey to lead the A-grade side once more.
Healey transformed the Hawks into a competitive outfit in 2021, and reassumes the role in the interest of breaching into finals territory next season.
