It was a thumping 44-goal win for Strathmerton in Picola District Football League round 13 action, with Looby and McCormack running amok against the Saints.
The two seemed to have a game within the contest as they hunted goals and bragging rights, but it was Looby who finished on top with a staggering 15 majors.
McCormack finished the memorable day with 12 to his name as Strathy marches into the break in second spot.
Looby’s efforts see him grab the goal-kicking lead off Waaia’s Charlie Burrows and takes him to 64 for the season.
Elsewhere, Picola United has sensationally forced its way into the top eight on the ladder after it claimed a crucial win over fellow finals aspirant Katamatite.
The Blues took control from the first bounce, although didn’t capitalise fully, kicking a wayward 2.6 to the Tigers’ two straight to enter the quarter-time huddle six points ahead.
The efficiency in front of goal improved dramatically from there, as Picola United booted a further 6.4 for the match, extending the lead at every break to secure the 8.10 (58) to 6.7 (43) win.
Blues coach Darby Walsh was overjoyed with his side, which kept the finals dream alive with the win.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game and that's exactly what it was,” he said.
“They play a really good style of footy, and I think we obviously displayed yesterday our style of footy as well.
“Consistency is one of the big things I've been speaking to the boys about, so I think it was good to finally get what I thought was a really consistent four-quarter effort.”
It was the second game in three weeks in which the Blues have beaten a team in a similar ladder position, with the side finally finding its feet following a tough fixture to begin the year.
“We had a bit of a trot there where we played a couple of really strong teams in a row and we knew that our best football was still to come,” Walsh said.
“There was still patches yesterday where we could have been better, but for the most part it was just really good to see the things we've been working on at training and trying to implement. We did those for basically the whole game.”
Walsh and co-captains Blake Jorgensen and Cody Haub led from the front as the best players on the ground, alongside Brandon Byrne, who is also putting together a fine season.
“We've had some really good performers this year and those three have been super, super consistent,” Walsh said of Jorgensen, Haub and Byrne.
“Blake and Cody, both of our co-captains, are just super performers, really reliable, and you know what you're going to get with them.
“I think for the both of them, they both stood up incredibly well yesterday and I could not be prouder of those two boys.
“Brandon Byrne, he's putting together a very good season himself. He plays down back and he does jobs for us every week. He's doing a fantastic job down there.”
Picola United now has its final bye before the run to finals, which it enters full of confidence after the win.
“It was a must-win game for us and we won it,” Walsh said.
“It's really good that we can go into the bye with the ladder looking how it does. We set ourselves some goals and we can tick those off and we can move forward with the last part of the season in a pretty good position.”
