The Goulburn Valley League’s 2022 junior 17 and under netball competition kicked off during the weekend, with plenty of competitive action.
All GVL sides were back on the court on Saturday, with round one finally under way.
In one of the games of the round, arch enemies Rochester and Echuca played out an entertaining 22 to 26 contest in Rochester.
The scores were at five all after the first quarter, before Echuca went three points up at halftime.
Echuca then shot clear in the third term, scoring 11 points to Rochester’s four and despite a late 8-2 final-term comeback from the Tigers, the Bombers took home the points.
Zayah James, Halle Gray and Milly Ross stood out for Echuca in a game that was a great way to start the season.
In Euroa, the Magpies began their season on the right foot, defeating Mansfield 40 to 32.
This game was a close contest throughout, with Euroa just edging out the visitors in an entertaining first half.
A massive third quarter 12-3 drubbing ultimately proved the difference between the two sides, with Chloe Salter, Millie Watson and Sienna Trotter all playing well for the home team.
In Seymour, the home side was simply to strong for Benalla, picking up a good 13-goal win.
Seymour led at every change, and despite a hearty showing from Benalla, it simply was not enough.
Around the courts, Shepparton edged out Moooroopna in a nail biter, with the Bears winning 44-40 in a good battle.
Tatura fell to Kyabram at home, with the Bombers picking up a significant 15 to 39 victory.
The Shepparton Swans defeated Shepparton United in the local derby, with the Swans’ 12-point win a convincing one.
