The Redbacks put on a dominant display to lock in their place in the top six as they chased down Katandra’s 117 in 29 overs.
Playing at home, Kyabram’s bowling attack put on a clinic.
Darin Ohlsen claimed impressive figures of 5-20 and Kaine Herbert played a classy support role with 3-19.
Kyabram was also dangerous with the bat — with Troy Thomson striking 50 not out and Kyle Mueller making 26.
For Katandra, knocks of 45 to Talon Wilson and 21 to Jedd Wright were not enough to get the side over the line; a solid 2-36 to Wright was the best of the bowling figures.
Kyabram coach Jackson McLay was full of praise for his strike spinners Ohlsen and Herbert.
“It was a good win, we didn’t get it all our way, they batted quite well at the start,” McLay said.
“It was a really good, tight performance by the spinners and they took eight wickets between them, which was fantastic.”
He also made note of Thomson’s batting display.
“It was fantastic for someone to get a 50 not out in a low-scoring game, that was the difference between the two sides,” he said.
With the win Kyabram remains in third spot, with a bye this weekend providing an opportunity to rest up before finals. McLay said his side was ready.
“It’s a whole new ball game once you get to finals, you just have to get there and once you’re there anyone can win it,” he said.
For Katandra, finals are no longer an option, but with a big game against Nagambie this weekend, the Eagles still have an opportunity to influence the finals race.
