Keady had wrought destruction on Old Students’ top order on day one of the round seven clash at Kialla last week, having sent Callan McCabe, Felix Odell and Oscar Lambourn back to the sheds.
With Rehan Bari and Emile Haratbar resuming for the hosts at the weekend on 4-54 in pursuit of Karra’s 210, it was advantage the Bloods in the pivotal clash.
But while Keady stole the headline’s for his eventual 6-47 off 22 overs, it was his fellow seamer Ethan Baxter who made the crucial breakthroughs for Karramomus.
Bari and Haratbar launched the Students’ fightback with a 70-run partnership that reignited the run chase, the former eventually raising the bat.
Haratbar hung around in his first game for Old Students after stints with Pine Lodge and Nathalia, compiling a watchful 29 off 70 deliveries.
But with the Students threatening to go big, Baxter struck.
The right-arm quick executed a sharp caught and bowled to send Haratbar packing before uprooting Andre Gagliardi’s stumps to reduce the Students to 6-118.
Still, they kept coming.
Jamie Carr (35 runs) partnered with Bari for a seventh-wicket partnership of 60 runs that spanned 30 overs, getting near the total with six overs to go.
Declan Newbound, after making 79 the previous weekend, finally claimed the prized scalp the Bloods were looking for; Bari dismissed for 58 after a marathon 195-ball dig.
His dismissal left too much for the Students’ tail to do and Keady capitalised by sending Carr, Tiron Fernando and Liam Callegari back to the dugout in quick succession to secure a hard-earned, 19-run victory.
In the scheme of the Haisman Shield, it’s a result with big implications on the outlook of the competition heading into the Christmas break.
The Bloods are perched in third, equal on premiership points with Central Park-St Brendan’s and Tatura, a position they will look to improve when they face newly-minted ladder leader Kyabram after the break.
Old Students, ninth, have now dropped a game behind the top six and will face up to Nagambie in their next outing.
THE GAME
Karramomus 210 (Declan Newbound 79, Zavier Davidson 33 Dustan Ebborn 29, Liam Callegari 5-40) d Old Students 191 (Rehan Bari 58, Jamie Carr 35, Lachie Keady 6-47)
STAR PLAYER:
Lachie Keady (Karramomus): It’s a famous Bloods name and the pace ace lived up to it. Twenty-two runs with the bat helped Karramomus past the 200 mark but his six-wicket haul, including three important day one strikes, was the headline for the talented quick.
