Cricket Victoria looks forward to welcoming girls, parents and families to the Carnival of Girls’ Cricket, marking the start of a new All-Girls Cricket League season.
In collaboration with Cricket Victoria, the Rural City of Wangaratta and Wangaratta & District Cricket Association, the Carnival of Girls’ Cricket will celebrate the launch of a new All-Girls Cricket League season.
In its second year in 2024-2025, the All-Girls Cricket League provides a pathway for girls to play sport in a team environment, socialise and build connections with peers.
With 49 participants and four teams in its inaugural season, the All-Girls Cricket League looks to double its number of participants and teams in 2024-2025, with the Carnival of Girls’ Cricket providing the perfect opportunity to meet new faces and learn more about the sport.
Across the state, women and girls continue to look to participate in cricket off the back of the success of the WBBL and Australian Women’s Cricket Teams, with 2024 Play Cricket Week data revealing women and girls’ participation continues to thrive – increasing 11% in season 2023-2024 compared to season 2022-2023.
Cricket Victoria Head of Participation Owen Hulett said opportunities such as the Carnival of Girls’ Cricket in Wangaratta and the All-Girls Cricket League allow for more girls to participate and engage in sport, socialise and develop friendships to have a life-long involvement in aspects of cricket.
“The All-Girls Cricket League in its inaugural year last year, provided an opportunity for more girls to become a part of the game, form connections and access the Cricket Victoria Talent Pathway,” Hulett said.
“It also allowed clubs in the Wangaratta and District Cricket Association to continue to promote cricket as a game for all, allow clubs to grow and become further entrenched in the local community.”
The Carnival of Girls’ Cricket will welcome Local MPs and Cricket Chairs to celebrate the launch of a new All-Girls Cricket League season.
