But not in lawn bowls.
District association pennant champions are on the green again in search of state pennant glory — just like Shepparton Golf managed last time the competition was staged.
The Golfers will again represent Goulburn Valley Bowls Division in the next stage of the weekend pennant championships, battling Wunghnu (Murray Bowls Division) and Kilmore (Central Bowls Division) on Saturday at Stanhope.
Only three-rink battles are played past the association level, meaning some bowlers could be unlucky in missing selection after tasting premiership success.
The One Ewes have released their team to tackle the best in the business in the Central Goulburn Murray Bowls Region.
Barry Cosgrove is sure to draw the toughest opposition rink on Saturday — like he did in the MBD grand final against Cobram — and will have Trevor Hosie, Graham King and Mark Shelton for company.
Andrew Henderson will skip with Russell Smith, Ray Hill and Allan Jones by his side, with Peter Revell taking up the mantle in the third rink alongside John McKenzie, Michael Williams and Doug Larkin.
Dean Graham and Wendy Coles are the emergencies.
Wunghnu's triumph over the Tigers was its third division one premiership in six seasons — while the division two One Ewes made the decider and just went down after earning promotion from division three in the previous campaign.
The midweek pennant deciders — between Shepparton Golf, Cobram and Seymour — were held at Tatura on Wednesday, but results were not available at the time of going to print.
The Campaspe Valley Bowls Division finals were held recently, with Moama going down to South Bendigo by one shot in the decider.
“It was a good game played in good spirits and good conditions,” Moama's Barry Brennan told the Riverine Herald.
“It’s a good effort to get there and we were not disgraced, we performed very well.
“We were as good as can be without the win. And though it’s disappointing losing, it’s the way it was meant to be.
“You go in knowing you need to play very well — they are the best in their area.
“So you know it’s not going to be a walk in the park. It’s a competitive, hard game and you have to perform.
“And to be honest we did, but so did they.
“We had a good year. We’re satisfied with the way we played, so we reset and start again next season.”
