With comfortably 300 players set to have a GMLTA game in the 43 teams across five grades this campaign, excitement is palpable as the first serve looms large.
“Everyone is really keen to play and have a hit in some competitive sport again,” association president Mark Mills said.
“We've given everyone enough time to organise their teams and get across the new regulations, so hopefully everything is able to run smoothly.
“We're probably up one or two teams on last year's numbers, but we've spread them across the grades a bit more evenly.”
Bendigo South has entered a team in the GM1 ranks, signalling a new challenge for the rest of the top tier.
“It's really exciting for the top grade,” Mills said.
“It speaks volumes for the standard of the comp for a team to want to drive over from Bendigo every second week to play here.
“I'm sure we'll get to know the team really well as the year goes on, it's exciting to see what they will bring.”
Shepparton Bulls, Hornets and Lakers, Numurkah Warriors, Echuca Lawn, Rich River Rebels and the Numurkah-Mooroopna Mud Dogs make up the remaining spots in GM1.
“Everyone's just ready to get out there and play,” Mills said.
“They're all well aware of the requirements off the court in terms of the new rules, and on the court it's looking like it will be a great season.”
