The event was 4BBB stroke and despite the forecast heat, there was a good turnout for it.
Craig Doherty and Damian Sceney, probably playing his first Saturday competition round, were the winners with a round of 58, two clear of their nearest rivals.
Damian has been a twilight regular over the years and with a win under his belt first up we hopefully might see him as a regular to our Saturday comps.
Craig has been playing good consistent golf, so would have been a good partner for Damo.
Greg Hall and Bruce Brown were the runners-up with 60 and as such headed the ball competition.
They were joined by Gary Eden and Simon Doherty who scored 61.
The top 10 pairs scored points in the first of the five rounds of the summer four-ball, with each round being a different four-ball format.
Nearest the pins were won by Bruce Brown on the sixth, Craig Doherty on the ninth and jackpot 12th and Russell Dunn on the 14th.
The chook shed challenge will jackpot to this Saturday after two pairs tied on 15.
Last Thursday's twilight competition was the first played over the long course for the season and I won't say "I told you so" but John Sullivan notched another win in his short golfing career with a round of 53-17-36.
Fortunately for the rest of us he will lose a shot from his twilight handicap, however, I suspect that won't be enough in the near future.
Simon Doherty was the runner-up with 43-6-37 which should keep him in contention overall after a few narrow misses of the cut.
Russell Dunn picked up a ball for his 37.5 and another one for nearest the pin on the jackpot ninth, while Simon was nearest on the 14th.
Craig Doherty won least putts with 16 on a countback from Simon.
The two-point cut was 43.
This Saturday's event is stroke for the Privilege Cup and a place in the "Tiger Cup" play-off.
It may pay to keep an eye out for a text from the captain, however, because the current forecast is for a temperature of 44°C which may see a stay of proceedings.
And while talking of syllabus matters, a new one is out and let's spare a thought for the captain who is up to around Mark XXVII of the syllabus.
