A host of sporting clubs throughout Greater Shepparton have tapped into their share of the $40 million Community Sport Sector COVID-19 Survival Package.

Released by the Victorian Government as a means for clubs to reboot and recover during the COVID-19 pandemic, organisations have successfully applied for grants of up to $1000 available to individual clubs.
Among the winter-code clubs to access funding are Goulburn Valley Suns, Kyabram Football Netball Club, Mooroopna Hockey Club and Shepparton Rugby Union Club — which will use the financial backing to help cover costs during their interrupted or cancelled seasons.
Many other sporting bodies, such as Central Park St Brendan's Cricket Club, Undera Tennis Club and Katandra Cricket Cub have secured the grant, providing a small boost as their respective seasons approach.
Member for Northern Victoria Tania Maxwell has welcomed the funding with open arms, acknowledging sporting clubs’ influence in survival of communities across Greater Shepparton.
“The positive impacts of participation in sport are well known and sporting clubs are integral to the strength and wellbeing of regional communities,” she said.
“Coronavirus restrictions have had a significant impact on community sport and the capacity of clubs to raise funds to support their operations.
“This funding will help organisations to continue to operate safely and help in developing their ‘Return to Play’ plans, post pandemic.”
