Her Adelaide Crows are reigning champions ahead of a second campaign in what will be the fourth edition of the competition after pairing a 2019 flag with their inaugural triumph in the trophy cabinet.
But despite a number of serious injuries to key players — including co-captains Chelsea Randall and Erin Phillips — the Crows are still confident they can give their opposition a run for their money as many of the group search for a third premiership medal.
“My favourite number is three so I'm certainly not planning to stop at two (premiership medals),” Foley said.
“We're a team that are being talked about in terms of depth but we've had a lot of big injuries so we're not sure where we'll stand.
“But you never know, you put in so much effort before the season and what will be, will be. It's a big cliche but we're just going to take it one game at a time.”
The changing faces of not only the competition — with Richmond, St Kilda, West Coast and Gold Coast joining the AFLW ranks in 2020 — but her own squad serve to help energise Foley ahead of another season at the highest level.
“The pre-season has been really good,” Foley said.
“We're always kind of going into the season with much the same approach, there's a lot of movement between teams and you don't know who's going to be good. There's lots of variety and unexpectedness.
“I'm looking forward to that unexpected nature of the competition just as much as I was in 2017.
“It's exciting for us to have that young talent coming through, and we drafted all South Australian girls which is great for the program.
“Montana McKinnon, our first draft pick in that ruck role, has been working hard and Maddi Newman's skills are just electric, she really stood out against GWS in one of the practice matches.”
Foley has also enjoyed the challenge of change in her personal life, juggling AFLW duties alongside a new teaching role following her move south from Darwin ahead of last season.
“It's a different climate to Darwin of course and it's not as relaxed, but personally I've started a new job at Seymour Girls College teaching and am two weeks in and loving it,” Foley said.
“I've obviously had that conversation with them (about juggling AFLW and work commitments) and it's just term one that will be a bit crazy.
“But our coach (Matthew Clarke) is very flexible as well. He understands that we've all got full-time jobs as well so it helps to know that we can go to our jobs and focus on footy as well and make it all work.”
Adelaide kicks off its 2020 campaign against Brisbane on the road tomorrow night before returning to South Australia to debut its new home ground against St Kilda in round two.
“We'll be playing at our new home ground Richmond Oval against St Kilda,” Foley said.
“Mum and Dad barrack for the Saints’ men's team so I'm looking forward to getting the chance to play them.”
