The Eagles had a bye in the opening round, but find themselves back out for their first match in the new season.
However, Katandra will have felt like it stepped back in time when it arrives at Congupna Recreation Reserve for tomorrow's match.
With Old Students' home ground Kialla Recreation Reserve out of action due to upgrades to the playing surface, the setting for tomorrow's match will be foreign for each side.
The ground was home to Congupna Cricket Club until 1996, when the club merged with Tallygaroopna to form Northerners.
“There really won't be an advantage to either side,” Old Students coach Chris Earl said.
“The conditions will be the same for both sides.
“Our B-grade played on it last weekend and there was a score over 200 made, so it shows it played well.”
Old Students are coming off a strong victory against Karramomus thanks largely to captain Felix Odell, who scored a magnificent century.
Odell found plenty of support from Callan McCabe (40), Brendan Crouch (43) and Nick Breslin (2-9) in the win.
“It was a great start, you can't ask for a better performance from your captain,” Earl said.
“He really led from the front, it was a super knock.
“The way he batted too was exciting, it was a run-a-ball century.”
However, Students' opponent tomorrow will have their own player coming off a stunning ton.
Even though Katandra had an A-grade bye, it has multiple players coming off strong B-grade efforts.
New Eagle Luke Patel scored a blistering 100 not out in Katandra's 90-run win against Undera in the Clyde Young Shield.
Jedd Wright came in late in and hit 43, as the Eagles' skipper looked to get match play under his belt.
“They will be a tough opponent, they are always up there each year,” Earl said.
“It's a very well-rounded outfit with a solid spread of good players.
“We're looking forward to getting more of a feel of where we are at as a side.”
