But for Tallygaroopna's Sam Muggleton, he's embarking on another grand final appearance and is striving for his third senior premiership medal.
His side is challenging Nagambie on Saturday afternoon for the Kyabram District League senior premiership at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve.
Muggleton, 29, spoke after his side's preliminary final win of the upcoming task at hand and the advice he has for those who may be lining up for their first crack at glory.
“Just to treat it as the same as any other game in the season," he said.
“Don't try be the hero, do what helps the team and play your role really.
“I know that sounds like a bit of cliché, but it's super important.”
Now in his third season at the club, Muggleton joined the leadership group as vice-captain at the beginning of the year.
He's been a key player across half-back for his side and was best on-ground when his side lost to Nagambie in round 17.
Not one to talk himself up, Muggleton downplayed his performances this season as "average" in a year he thought was a bit odd.
“It's been a funny type of season," he said.
“It was a bit hard to gather any real momentum with the byes and everything.
“But the group have done a great job to get into the position we are in.”
The Redlegs' position has them face-off against rival Nagambie, in a repeat of last year's decider.
They got up by 21 points in that decider and had the measure of Nagambie in round two this season by 39 points.
But the Lakers have since turned the tide and have won the past two matches by a combined 153 points — the most recent being the 99-point thumping in the semi-final.
“Yeah, I guess we do have a bit of rivalry against Nagambie," Muggleton said.
“It was pretty demoralising (semi-final loss), but now we get another crack at them.
“They're a good side and play a different brand of football to the rest of the comp.
“This will be the third time in a month we play off and the fourth time this season, and last year it was three or four times. We know each other pretty well.”
And if Muggleton is to taste the euphoria of premiership success back-to-back on Saturday, he'll be doing it with some of his close mates.
“I'm good mates with Tys (Tyson Sidebottom), we played in a flag together at (Shepparton) United in 2010," he said.
“When Tys asked if I was interested, I thought 'why not?' and a couple of other mates came out as well which was nice.
“I love it out here, it's a great club and great bunch of boys.”
