Mooroopna 34 d
Tatura 19
A quick start from Tatura was not enough to upset Mooroopna in its Goulburn Valley League netball clash on Saturday.
The Tatura Park courts were soaked from the weekend's wild weather, but the two sides battled it out fiercely.
The Cats' 34-19 win lifts them into fifth position on the ladder, wedged in between the Shepparton Swans and Shepparton.
Mooroopna was made to work hard for the triumph after the Bulldogs came out snarling.
Tatura stunned onlookers to grab a two-goal lead at the first break.
Both attacking ends shot accurately, despite the wind and rain, with Tatura's Jade Kay and Mooroopna's Georgia Braybon performing well.
However, Di Hanslow's side went up another gear at the start of the second term.
Led by lockdown defender Ash Lancaster, the Cats kept Tatura to three goals in each of the second and third quarters.
Lancaster was judged best-on-court for her defensive prowess in the middle of the game.
Teammate Lauren Reidy played a helping hand in defence, as Mooroopna suffocated the Bulldogs' entries into the ring.
Georgia Gattuso used her smarts through the midcourt and battled well against Tatura up-and-comer Elsie Boyer.
The Bulldogs fell 10 goals behind at the last break, but moved the ball freely across the court in the final term.
Talented midcourter Jacqui James battled hard at the centre position, while Alex Bertram chipped in with a solid performance.
Mooroopna has a top six clash against Seymour this Saturday, while Tatura has the chance to pick up its second win of the season when it travels to take on Euroa.
