The Tigers — missing regular A-graders Meg Denson and Keely Bond — had to come from behind in the clash, but eventually claimed a 43-37 result when the final whistle sounded.
‘‘They (Tungamah) played really well, especially in the defensive circle,’’ Cobram coach Kate Bird said.
‘‘We had a very slow start and then came through, it wasn’t until halfway through the third quarter that we started to get on top.’’
Denson’s absence has hurt the Tigers in the past two rounds, but Lili Murphy stood tall in her place on Saturday.
‘‘Lili Murphy usually plays goal defence, but came in and played really well in goal keeper,’’ Bird said.
‘‘Our issue has been that we’ve had Meg Denson out with a back injury for the past three weeks, and she’d probably be right up there in the running for our best-and-fairest count. To have Meg back will be so important for us next week.’’
Shooter Lillieth Ukich was also a standout after half-time as the Tigers kept themselves within a game of Deniliquin in fourth spot — a side they face next week.
Tongala also had a crucial victory in round 14 action, defeating Congupna 46-40 to draw within two points of The Road.
The Blues are in ninth spot on the table and will be hoping for a big finish to the season in order to sneak into finals.
Deniliquin had a comfortable 54-32 win against Finley to jump back onto the winner’s list, while Mulwala outlasted Barooga 41-38 in a thriller.
Echuca United (51), Moama (78) and Rumbalara (81) all got the job done against Nathalia (33), Numurkah (26) and Katandra (23) to complete the round.
