Rumbalara handed Moama its first loss in more than a year to claim the mantle of ladder leader after 10 rounds of competition.
Jess Bamblett’s troops started slowly at Moama Recreation Reserve on Saturday, but came barrelling home to win 58-47.
‘‘It was surprising to win by that much in the end, but we were really happy with the win,’’ Bamblett said.
‘‘They were 10 goals up at half-time, but we played more to our plan in the last two quarters and were able to get the win.’’
Once again shooter Elenoa Naimalua was the catalyst for Rumbalara’s victory, but the side knows there is plenty of time left in the current campaign.
‘‘Elenoa is a star, she’s definitely one to watch,’’ Bamblett said.
‘‘Our main focus is to keep this momentum going all the way to finals.’’
For the Magpies it was their largest defeat since July 2016 and their first loss since Rumba snared a one-goal triumph in round seven last season.
●Echuca United joins Moama in equal second spot on the table — just two points behind Rumbalara — after smashing Tungamah 62-20.
Three sides then occupy the same ladder space on seven wins apiece with Deniliquin, Cobram and Finley all adding to their tally on Saturday.
The Rams defeated Mulwala 52-31, the Tigers had the better of Congupna 45-37 and the Cats got the cream against Tongala 48-46.
The Lions sit next on the rankings in seventh, followed by The Road in eighth.
Hot on their heels though is Nathalia after a 55-30 win against Numurkah yesterday, while Barooga was the other victor of the round with a 51-32 result against Katandra.
