“I think this is going to be very important for the tourism and travel industry on both sides of the Tasman, as well the very practical issues of families being able to reconnect.”

On Monday, Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack also flagged early discussions were under way about establishing more travel bubbles.

“Whether that's Singapore next or . . . one of the Pacific Island nations — we're in those discussions,” he said.

“As vaccine rollouts happen, both here and elsewhere, that's what's going to happen.”

Victoria recorded zero new local cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, with four new cases in hotel quarantine.

Almost 8000 tests were received and 887 vaccines were administered.
