This is Australia’s largest child safety education and awareness day in schools.
The theme in 2022 was ‘Brave Conversations’.
The Daniel Morcombe Foundation was established in honour of Daniel Morcombe to make Australia a safer place for children.
It was founded by Daniel’s parents Bruce and Denise after their son was abducted and murdered in December 2003, while waiting to catch a bus on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
The aims of the foundation are to educate children and young people about how to stay safe in physical and online environments and to support young victims of crime.
The day at TPS was organised and run by the Student Representative Council.
Principal Darren White said all students were asked to dress in red and bring a gold coin donation.
“The SRC proudly raised almost $200 for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation,” Mr White said.
“Classes participated in various activities that raised awareness of child safety.
“The Year 6 SRC leaders also ran a competition for who was ‘Best in Red’.
“This was won by Kobi Jones (infants) and Charlie Wilson (primary).
“In addition, the best dressed boy and girl from each class was also recognised.”
Mr White said the school was very proud of the leadership on display by its SRC and the response by the students to this very important day.
