And that’s the Deni Ute Muster.
So a performance from The Angels at the 2022 Deni Ute Muster just makes sense.
The Angels are no strangers to the Ute Muster stage, but after two years of cancelled events, founding band member John Brewster said the band is excited to bring their music back to Deni.
“It’s such a wonderful event,” Brewster said of the Ute Muster.
“We love the big outdoor shows, and having played it before we are excited to be a part of it again.”
Despite the Angels forming nearly 50 years ago, Brewster said they are performing “better than we ever have before”.
“We have had a massive year this year,” he said.
“We’ve played about 20 Red Hot Summer Shows and more recently BluesFest at Byron Bay, which was one of our crowning moments.
“The Ute Muster will be no different.”
Brewster said the secret to staying relevant all these years is a combination of passionate performance, timeless songwriting and the catching on of a mysterious chant started in the early 1980s.
“We have no idea how it started,” Brewster said.
“It (Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again) wasn’t a big song for us at the time, so we had stopped playing it for a couple of years.
“We were playing a show at Mt Isa and the crowd was hollaring for encores, and someone said ‘why don’t we play face?’. Next thing we knew a crowd of 3,000 were chanting the famous chant back at us - it nearly blew us off the stage.
“At the time we thought it was just a Mt Isa thing, but sure enough at every show after that the chant continued.
“It still is puzzles us as to how it spread across Australia at a time where there was no phones, no internet, none of that stuff, but it’s such a fun thing.
“It’s the larrikin Australian way, and I love that aspect of Australian life.”
Those who attend the 2022 Deni Ute Muster will also have the opportunity to sing, or scream, along with the famous chant, along with the rest of The Angels hit songs.
“You can expect all the big songs, played by a band who has as much passion and is playing as good as we ever have before,” said Brewster.
“It will be a celebration for the audience, and for us.”
The Deni ute Muster is being held Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1.
The Angels are just one part of a mega musical and around the grounds entertainment program, which will headline Aussie star Jessica Mauboy and American country music favourite Braf Paisley.
