On Tuesday Rob Dennis, Joe Chant, Noreen Earl and Carmen Quattrocchi drew M. Lockyer and won by four shots.
Merrigum took the lead after the third end and led by 15 shots after 11 ends.
However, at the completion of end 22 it found itself one shot down.
To its credit it was able to regroup and get the two points for the visitors.
Barry Parsons, Stan Coldwell, Wayne and Maureen Shepherd did battle with Helen Newton and after 10 ends they enjoyed a 15-shot lead and looked in for an easy day.
After 20 ends the scores were level and it was game on.
In the last ends Merrigum scored six shots to three to gain another two valuable points for the visitors. Well done!
In the last game John Firmer trailed Marg Tweddle all day and lost by seven shots.
The final result was nine points to Merrigum and seven points to Murchison which sees us sitting in second place with three rounds to play.
On Saturday we were soundly beaten by a much more determined side, well done Murchison.
David Pettifer, Greg Pell, Stan Coldwell and John Bailey played W. Saunders and managed a draw.
The only time Merrigum was not behind on the scoreboard was at the finish of end three and end 25.
At the conclusion of end 24 Merrigum was a massive six shots behind and gone for all money, but somehow it managed to grab six shots to claim a draw. Great effort.
Rob Dennis drew Geoff Higgins and lost by two shots.
They led by one shot going into the last end, but the Murch skipper, who was brilliant all day, moved Merrigum’s shot bowl and stayed there to gain the win.
He played an outstanding game.
John Firmer met T. Martin and lost by five shots and Gary Mott drew Wayne Brown and lost by 14 shots.
All in all it was a dismal day as Merrigum certainly went into the contest in a confident mood, but was no match for the home side.
It was great to see Greg Pell reach the semi-finals of the championship.
This is the first time he has achieved this position and we wish him all the best for the next round.
