Shepparton in top tourism running

Shepparton has been announced as a finalist for the Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards.

Hosted by the Victoria Tourism Industry Council, the awards showcase the regional towns and centres offering exceptional and unique visitor experiences across Victoria.

Shepparton has traditionally been reliant on visiting family and friends for visitation but in the past decade has built a reputation for events, including national and international sporting competitions.

The new Shepparton Art Museum and the Museum of Vehicle Evolution has added to the growth in destination-based tourism, people who visit the region because of the attractions and experiences on offer.

VTIC chief executive Felicia Mariani said the awards were an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the most captivating destinations the state has to offer.

“Victorians have been charmed by their own backyard — two years of being in and out of lockdown have shown many of us we don’t have to leave Victoria for a getaway,” she said.

Finalists will proceed to the consumer voting element of the awards, giving the public a chance to vote for their favourite Victorian destinations.

Voting opens on Tuesday, May 10, and close on May 31.
