If you’re not prepared to take the researchers’ word for it, Cool Cat Rockers is offering an opportunity to find out for yourself with its beginner rock ’n’ roll classes recommencing next month.
Over six consecutive Tuesdays, participants will learn basic moves, footwork and handholds at the Kialla Hall.
The club, which celebrated its 25th anniversary last year and now has more than 80 members, says its beginner classes don’t require participants to have any experience or a dancing partner.
The club supported a Nathalia Lions Club dance fundraiser during the Australia Day long weekend and helped raise more than $2000.
The beginner lessons cost $10 each ($8 if you’re a member), but the first of the six is free.
After the final lesson, on March 18, dancers will celebrate with a social dance to practise the skills they learn during the six-week course.
They will also be eligible for discounted tickets to the club’s next dance, on March 22.
Participants should wear casual clothing, including flat comfortable shoes, and bring with them a bottle of water and a fun attitude.
Lessons go for 45 minutes; however, beginners are invited to stay until 9.30pm to watch the later lessons to see the level of competence that can be achieved in the dance discipline.
Lessons begin at 6.45pm on February 11 at Kialla Hall, 135 Central Kialla Rd, Kialla.
