The club president sat quietly and thoughtfully as he looked over at the football oval, giving thought to the fast-approaching season.
“It’s a big milestone for us and the town as a whole,” Mr Cleary said.
“On March 23, the club will be celebrating 150 years, which will be a big, spectacular, family-friendly event.
“We will be celebrating with the premierships we have won in the two leagues, having played primarily in the Bendigo League and then when we moved into the Goulburn Valley League.
The celebration of the club’s 150 years coincides with a published book titled ‘The Locals’ written by Mark Gullick.
The club has made significant investments off and on the field, ensuring it can rise to the challenge.
While the field is manicured and always match-ready, there have also been a few new signings off the field that are sure to generate more excitement.
As for off the field, a few exciting signings will energise the club and its members.
“We have some exciting new signings coming to the club, such as Mitch Trewhella from Bendigo and Hamish Hinei, who played for the Oakleigh Chargers,” Mr Cleary said.
“Ultimately, we would like to be successful; we want to be able to position ourselves where we have a chance at the premiership right through all our football and netball grades.
While the club looks to be competitive, the footy ground is always sure to be match-ready.
“The ground is looking good, we have a new irrigation system installed, and the grass is ready for the first bounce of the season,” Mr Cleary said.
“We also have other projects on the go, such as installing lights when we train at night and a new scoreboard coming soon.
Mr Cleary also wanted to show his sincere appreciation for the many people who tirelessly work behind the scenes to ensure every aspect of the club runs smoothly.
